From Youtube: Bestselling author, political adviser and social and ethical prophet Jeremy Rifkin investigates the evolution of empathy and the profound ways that it has shaped our development and our society.
This may be the first of a series of video I hope to post as part of the Royal Society for the Arts “Animate” project. I think the concept is phenomenal. Much like a TED talk with a respected worker, leader in his or her field, doing a short presentation on an key issue, but with the RSA they animate the lecture to great effect. A really interesting and educational time waster, if you’re looking for one.
The concept of empathy, and how to expand the notion, is something that has been and will be a central focus of my work in school. In my mind, viewing history through this lens gives us a way to understand the evolution of human culture, and also insight into how we may continue to grow. We must believe it is possible to expand our empathic circles wider and wider to effectively work together as an ever growing, ever connected human community.
